Rodney Crowell and Tamara Saviano in discussion with Shari Smith about Guy Clark

Tamara Saviano is an author, producer, songwriter-whisperer, and creative ringleader. Without Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark, Saviano’s biography on legendary songwriter Guy Clark, released by Texas A&M University Press in 2016 and won the prestigious Belmont Award from the International Country Music Conference for the best writing on country music that year. Saviano’s documentary feature on Clark, was the winner of SXSW’s 2021 Louis Black Lonestar Award and the 2021 Rockport Film Festival’s Audience Award. Saviano’s oral history on Americana music, Kindred Spirits, will be published by Texas A&M University Press in spring, 2025.
Rodney Crowell is a songwriter’s songwriter and an icon among giants. Native Texan, Rodney is a Multi-Grammy winning troubadour with fifteen Number One hits. Over the course of his career, Crowell has gracefully blended his own mainstream success as an artist with a prolific catalog of cuts by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban, and more making him a master among his peers.
With more than 40 years under his belt, Rodney has been cited as the architect of Americana Music owning to the distinctive, literary quality of his writing. A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Rodney is also the author of the acclaimed “Chinaberry Sidewalks.”
